Customize your user experience

Overview

The Settings section lets you personalize the app to your preferences and manage your data securely.

Appearance

Dark / Light Mode

The application supports two visual themes:

  • • White background
  • • Ideal for outdoors
  • • Better readability in sunlight

Dark Mode
  • • Dark background
  • • Reduces eye strain
  • • Saves battery (OLED screens)

To change the theme, use the sun/moon icon in the application header.

Language

The application is available in two languages:

  • 🇪🇸 Spanish: Default language
  • 🇬🇧 English: Full interface in English

To change the language, use the globe icon in the header.

Data Management

Export Backup

Create a complete backup of all your data:

  • All studies with their configuration
  • Stations and tasks
  • Observation plans
  • Registered observations
  • Workers and categories

The backup is downloaded as a JSON file that you can save safely.

How to export a backup:

  1. 1. Go to "Settings" from the side menu
  2. 2. Click on "Export Backup"
  3. 3. The file will download automatically
  4. 4. File name: work_sampling_backup_DATE.json

Import Backup

Restore your data from a previous backup file:

  1. Go to "Settings" → "Import Backup"
  2. Select the JSON file
  3. Confirm the import
  4. Data will load into the application

⚠️ Important

Importing a backup adds the data to the existing set. It does not replace current studies, but complements them. Duplicate IDs are handled automatically.

Notifications

Control push notifications from the application header:

Status Icon Description
Enabled 🔔 You will receive alerts for each observation
Disabled 🔕 You will not receive notifications
Blocked ⚠️ The browser does not allow notifications

Account and Session

Sign Out

To sign out:

  • Click the logout icon in the header
  • Confirm the action
  • You will be redirected to the login screen

Your data remains safe in the cloud and will be available when you sign back in.

Local vs. Cloud Data

The application stores data in two places:

☁️ Firebase (Cloud)

  • • Permanent backup
  • • Sync between devices
  • • Requires connection to write

💾 IndexedDB (Local)

  • • Works offline
  • • Fast loading
  • • Syncs automatically

Study Preferences

Some settings are established at the individual study level:

  • Rating scale: 100-133 (ILO) or 60-80 (Bedaux)
  • Confidence level: 90%, 95% or 99%
  • Error margin: Desired precision
  • Allowances: Percentage of allowances

These are configured when creating or editing each study.

Performance and Storage

App Cache

The PWA caches resources to work offline. If you experience issues:

  • Reload the page with Ctrl+Shift+R (force reload)
  • Or use the "Update" option in your browser settings

Storage Usage

The application typically uses:

  • App and resources: ~5-10 MB
  • Study data: Variable, ~1-5 MB per large study
  • Typical total: 20-50 MB

💡 Recommendations

  • ✓ Export a weekly backup of your data
  • ✓ Keep the backup in a safe place (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.)
  • ✓ Enable notifications so you don't miss scheduled observations
  • ✓ Use dark mode if you often work at night
